LAY IT ON THICK: is a flash fiction, erotica publication project edited by Natascha Nanji and Palin Ansusinha. The first edition, A Summer 2019 Compilation, is a collection of texts, drawings and images that capture the raw heat of sweltering summer moments, those feverish sensations washing over perspiring bodies, vaporising as they emerge.
It's a publication that friends or lovers can slip in/out of each other’s bags, or “accidentally” leave in a corner of your local coffee shop, bookshop, library or art space.
We have invited a total of 24 contributors based all around the world. They are writers, artists, curators, musicians, philosophers, cultural workers/art labourers gathered together through our personal networks of kinship and affliations.
We will collaborate with a different designer for each edition. The designer for our very first edition compiled at the end of Summer 2019 is Bangkok based artist and designer Jeanne Penjan Lassus.
We are posting 115 copies to our contributors (5 copies each) to distribute to their favourite people and places. As well as selling physical copies online via our of official LAY IT ON THICK website (in progress), we will distribute and sell copies internationally via art spaces, zine and bookstores (physical and online), and art book fairs. Potential distributors include Bangkok CityCity Gallery (Bangkok), Printed Matter, Inc. (NYC), Fully Booked (Middle East), Ware (Singapore), ICA (London), and many more.
We are planning a launch event which will take place in London, sometime in February 2020, at Gallery Tiresias. Natascha is designing an installation around which live readings and recordings will happen and the publication will be available for sale..
There may also be a tandem launch event in Bangkok at a gallery. More details to follow.
